Field of view (FOV) is how much of the game world fits on screen at once, measured in degrees. Wider shows more of your surroundings but shrinks distant targets and stretches the edges; narrower zooms in, helping long-range aim at the cost of peripheral awareness. The geometrically correct FOV is the angle your eyes sweep from one edge of the glass to the other — going much wider distorts depth and is a common cause of sim sickness.

The Optimal tab uses the trigonometry sim racers rely on: hFOV = 2 × atan(screen width / (2 × distance)), with vertical FOV following from the aspect ratio. Triple-screen and curved setups fold in bezel gaps and panel radius. A 27-inch 16:9 monitor at 60 cm works out to roughly 53° hFOV; slide forward to 40 cm and it passes 73°.

In competitive shooters FOV is a trade-off rather than a geometry match: wider improves peripheral awareness but makes distant targets smaller, most sliders clamp somewhere around 60–120°, and a few titles (Valorant) lock it outright for fairness. Use the Optimal tab for sim racing and single-player immersion, and treat the FPS values as a starting point to fine-tune by feel.

hFOV vs vFOV

Horizontal FOV measures left-to-right, vertical FOV top-to-bottom. Most FPS titles and sims use hFOV; Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2, PUBG and some Call of Duty games use vFOV, and Richard Burns Rally wants radians on a fixed 4:3 reference. The Convert tab moves between them for any aspect ratio: vFOV = 2 × atan(tan(hFOV/2) × height/width), and the reverse multiplies by width/height. At 16:9, 103° hFOV is about 71° vFOV.
