CPS — clicks per second — is the standard measure of raw clicking speed. The stat grew out of Minecraft PvP, where faster clicking lands more hits and stronger knockback, but it applies to any game built on rapid inputs. It splits into two skills: burst speed, how hard you can hammer for a second or two, and endurance, the pace you hold once your forearm starts to burn — this test clocks both. To benchmark your other button, try the Right Click CPS Test.

Duration is the key choice: 1- and 5-second runs reward a fast burst, while 30, 60, and 100 seconds test stamina as your hand tires. The clock starts on your first click, so no countdown eats into your reaction time, and clicks divided by elapsed time give a CPS figure that updates live. When time's up, the chart breaks the run down second by second, exposing whether you started hot and faded or held an even pace. Everything runs locally — nothing is uploaded.

A typical click rate is 5–8 CPS. Above 8 counts as fast, and 10–14 CPS almost always means a special technique rather than plain one-finger clicking. Because burst speed and endurance are different skills, only compare scores from the same test length — your 1-second number will look nothing like your 100-second number, and that's normal.

CPS ranks on this test

RankCPSWhat it usually takes
Slowunder 3A relaxed pace — most people clear this without trying
Casual3–5Everyday browsing speed, no real effort
Average5–7Normal clicking done with intent — where most first attempts land
Good7–9Fast, deliberate normal clicking with a relaxed hand
Fast9–11Around the ceiling of one-finger clicking; jitter territory begins
Very fast11–13Almost always jitter or butterfly clicking
Insane13–15Refined technique and short bursts — hard to sustain
Godlike15+Record-chasing pace, usually drag clicking or perfect butterfly form

Clicking techniques

  • Normal clicking — one finger, one click. Comfortable and sustainable, usually up to about 8 CPS.
  • Jitter clicking — tensing your arm so your finger vibrates on the button. Reaches 10–14 CPS, but it's tiring and hard to aim through.
  • Butterfly clicking — alternating two fingers on one button so each tap registers separately. Similar speed to jitter with less strain, though some servers flag it.
  • Drag clicking — dragging a finger across a textured button so friction fires many clicks at once. The fastest method by far, but hard on switches and banned in many games.

How to improve your CPS?

Click speed responds to practice like any motor skill — short, frequent runs beat one long grind. Use the second-by-second chart to spot where your rate drops, then train that weakness directly.

  • Warm up first — 30 seconds of loose clicking wards off early fatigue and cramps.
  • Train burst and endurance separately: 1–5 second runs raise your top speed, 30–100 second runs stretch how long you can hold it.
  • Add a technique only when normal clicking plateaus near 7–8 CPS — drill jitter or butterfly slowly for control before chasing raw speed.
  • Anchor your wrist and keep a light grip; tension slows your finger within seconds. Rest between attempts, as back-to-back runs fatigue your forearm.
  • Rule out your hardware: a sticky switch, low polling rate, or double-click fault will cap any score. Check how often your mouse reports to your PC with the Mouse Polling Rate Tester, or measure end-to-end responsiveness with the Input Lag Tester.
