A mouse spin test tracks your pointer’s angle around the center of the pad and adds up how far it travels, so circular motion registers as rotation. It reports total full turns (spins), your live speed in RPM — rotations per minute — your peak, and the total degrees turned. It’s mostly a game, but because it reacts to fast circular motion it doubles as a rough check that your sensor keeps tracking cleanly at speed — for a fuller button and scroll check use the Mouse Tester, and to measure your real sensitivity try the Mouse DPI Tester & Analyzer.

The test sums the change in pointer angle between updates over a short rolling window, ignoring jitter near the center where the angle is unstable. Degrees turned divided by elapsed time gives an angular speed, converted to rotations per second and multiplied by sixty for RPM. One spin is 360 degrees, so total spins is total degrees divided by 360. Readings are lightly smoothed so a stray sample can’t spike the number, and everything runs locally — nothing is uploaded.

Fast spinning is also the classic way to hunt for spin-outs — moments when you whip the mouse so quickly that the sensor loses tracking and the cursor jumps or stalls. Every optical sensor has a maximum speed it can follow, quoted in inches per second (IPS), and your perfect control speed is the fastest you can move while it still reports every step. A smooth trail and a steadily climbing counter at high RPM mean the sensor is keeping up; sudden jumps, a frozen count, or the cursor flinging off in a random direction mean you’ve pushed past its limit.
