Every mouse button is a mechanical switch rated for tens of millions of clicks, and the scroll wheel drives a small rotary encoder that reports each notch as an up or down tick. Both wear out, and the first symptom is rarely total failure: a press that registers twice, a click that occasionally drops, or a wheel that jumps the wrong way. This tester makes those faults visible, so you can tell a dying switch from a software problem before you blame a game or a driver.
Move your cursor over the diagram, press each button in turn, then roll the wheel both ways. Every input lights up the matching region — left, right, middle, and the back and forward side buttons — ticks its counter, fills the “buttons detected” meter, and is stamped into the event log. The right-click menu and side-button navigation are suppressed over the pad so nothing interrupts the test, and everything runs locally in your browser. Two readings matter most. The double-click counter flags any two presses of the same button landing under 80 milliseconds apart — faster than a deliberate human click — as a misfire; the odd flag during rapid clicking is fine, but repeated flags from single, careful presses mean the switch is on its way out. Scroll up and down are counted separately, so a one-directional encoder fault stands out: even counts both ways are healthy, while ticks that only rise one way or run backwards point to a dirty or worn encoder.
